The other night while we were eating dinner, an item appeared on the news about violent attacks in Sydney, Australia. We listened and commented briefly. Then Tamara, our housemate from Sevilla, asked us “Where’s Sydney?”
Emmalie and I replied “Sydney is in Australia.”
We received a blank stare. It was almost like she expected us to provide a longer explanation. I am 95% sure that she does not know where or what Australia is.
